The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This is Dr. King's birthday. He was a man that I admired greatly. I remember marching with thousands of others through the streets of Philadelphia on the day after he was assassinated.

Though his dream has not been fully realized, I'm sure he would be very pleased to know that the United States of America elected an African-American president.

Dr. King spoke these words in front of the Lincoln Memorial: "I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

"I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slaveowners will be able to st down together at a table of brotherhood. . . .

"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

"I have a dream today. . . .

"I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together."

On Saturday my wife (Peggy) and I saw a wonderful movie entitled, "Blind Side." It is a very inspirational film that is based on true events. It helps to show how prejudice can be overcome. I highly recommend this motion picture to you.

Let's all work together to bring about a fulfillment of Dr. King's dream. It can happen when we put God first.

Human being tend to punish those who are different from them, but when we read the Bible, we discover that there really are no differences among us. We're all sinners. God loves each one of us. Jesus died for each person, regardless of his/her ethnic background. We are all one in Christ. In lowliness of mind we should each esteem others as being better than ourselves.

Let's keep Dr. King's dream going.
